Question 1

Is a letter a good gift?

Accepted Answer

It works best when the point of the gift is the relationship rather than the object - a milestone birthday, an anniversary, an apology, someone far away, or a person who already owns everything. A letter is the one common gift that cannot have been given to anyone else, because it is made entirely of specifics only the sender has, and it is the kind of thing people keep for years in a drawer. It is a poor choice if the person has asked for something specific, or if you barely know them.
