Who do we address it to if the baby can't read?
Most parents address it to the child at their own home and keep it sealed in the baby book, or send it to grandparents to hold. Some order one every birthday and build a collection to hand over years later.
Can relatives send a first birthday letter too?
Yes — grandparents, aunts and uncles often send one. A child who ends up with a bundle of letters written in their first year, by people who were there, owns something no gift can match.
What to write in a first birthday letter to my daughter to open when she is older?
Write down what she is like right now — the sounds she makes, what makes her laugh, what she refuses to eat — because you will forget all of it within two years. Then say plainly how it felt to become her parent.
What should a first birthday letter actually contain?
Three things work: a snapshot of who the baby is at one, an honest account of the year the parents just had, and one wish for the person they will become. Everything else is optional.
When should the child open the first birthday letter?
There is no rule, but most families pick a threshold — the eighteenth birthday, a wedding, the day they leave home. Writing the intended occasion on the envelope helps whoever is keeping it.

Can we write it in Hindi?
Yes — English, Hindi or Hinglish. Many parents write in their mother tongue precisely so the child grows up able to read it in the language they were first spoken to in.
