What you actually get
We write letters by hand and post them anywhere in India. These are the extras you can add to one — photographed as they really are, with what each costs, how we make it, and what it will not do.
Wax Seal & Pressed Flower
Real sealing wax, melted and poured by hand onto the flap of your envelope, then stamped with a brass seal while it is still soft. Not a sticker, not printed — the envelope genuinely has to be broken open. Add a real pressed flower and we set it into the wax as it cools, so it stays visible in the seal. The flower costs nothing extra.
What we actually do
- Your letter is folded and placed in the envelope, and the flap is closed.
- A stick of sealing wax is melted over a flame and poured onto the flap.
- If you chose a flower, a pressed, dried bloom is laid into the wax in the seconds before it sets — never a fresh flower, which would rot in transit.
- A brass seal is pressed into the wax and held while it hardens.
- The envelope is left to cool fully before it is packed for post.
No two seals are identical. Small air bubbles, a slightly uneven edge, a little wax past the stamp — that is what hand-poured wax does, and it is not a defect. Wax is also brittle: on rare occasions a seal chips in transit. If yours arrives cracked, tell us and we will make it right.
Does the pressed flower cost extra?
No. It is included with the wax seal — tick the seal at checkout and the flower option appears underneath it. It cannot be ordered on its own, because there would be nothing holding it to the envelope.
Can I choose the flower?
Not from a list — we use whatever is pressed and in good condition at the time, chosen to suit your envelope. They are small dried blooms and petals, not a bouquet.
Is the wax colour my choice?
We match the wax to your envelope colour so the two do not fight each other. If you want a specific colour, add it to your one-line note at checkout, or email us right after ordering and we will do our best.
What design is on the seal?
A plain, classic motif — no LetterByPost branding anywhere on your envelope. We do not put our name on the outside of anything we post.
Will the post office damage it?
Sealed letters travel in a protective outer sleeve, so the wax is not rubbing against sorting machinery. This is why the seal — and the flower set into it — survives the journey in almost every case.
Scented Paper
The sheet is lightly misted with your chosen scent — Rose, Lavender or Jasmine — in the last moments before folding, so the scent is shut inside the envelope until it is opened.
What we actually do
- The letter is written and left to dry completely.
- The sheet is misted lightly from a distance — never soaked, which would warp the paper and run the ink.
- It is folded and sealed straight away so the scent is trapped inside.
Be realistic about this one. It is subtle — noticeable when the envelope is opened and the paper is close to the face, not from across the room. It also fades over the days in transit, and a letter posted to a very hot or humid region will arrive fainter than one travelling a short distance.
Which scent should I pick?
Rose is the safest and most familiar. Lavender is the softest and reads as calming rather than romantic. Jasmine is the strongest and lasts longest of the three.
Will it still smell in a year?
No. Treat this as something for the moment of opening. If the letter is kept in a drawer, the scent will be gone long before the letter is.
What if the recipient has allergies?
Then skip it. It is a light mist, but there is no reason to gamble with someone who reacts to fragrance.
Tied with Twine or Ribbon
Your folded letter is tied — natural jute twine, or a satin ribbon — before it goes into the envelope. It has to be untied before it can be read, which puts a small pause between opening the envelope and starting the letter.
What we actually do
- The letter is folded, and any photos or P.S. card are gathered with it.
- The whole bundle is tied with your choice of twine or ribbon and finished with a bow.
- It goes into the envelope tied, so it arrives exactly as it left us.
Twine reads rustic and understated; ribbon reads formal and gift-like. If the letter includes printed photos, the tie holds everything together as one bundle, which is often the point.
What colour is the ribbon?
Chosen to sit well with your envelope colour. Twine is natural jute in its own colour and does not vary.
Can I have both a tie and a wax seal?
Yes, and they do different jobs — the tie is around the letter inside, the wax seal is on the envelope outside. Many of our nicest orders have both.
A Special Note (P.S.)
One extra line, on its own small card, written by the same person in the same hand as your letter. The kind of thing you would say at the door on the way out — after the letter has already said everything it came to say.
What we actually do
- You type up to 120 characters at checkout — one line, deliberately.
- It is written by hand on a separate small card, by whoever wrote your letter.
- The card is tucked in with the letter, so it is found second, not first.
The 120-character limit is not a technical restriction — it is the whole idea. A note that runs to a paragraph is just more letter. The short ones land hardest: an inside joke, a single promise, one thing you could not fit into the main letter.
Is it in the same handwriting as the letter?
Yes, for handwritten orders — the same writer does both, so it reads as one hand. For printed letters, the note card is set in the same type as the letter.
Can the note be in a different language?
Yes. English, Hindi or Hinglish, whatever suits the line — including a Hindi note on an English letter, which people do more often than you would expect.
Printed Photos
Up to 3 of your own photos, printed on real photo paper at 2.3×3.5 inches or 3×3 inches, and tucked in beside the letter. One flat price for one, two or three — nothing digital, nothing that needs a screen.
What we actually do
- You upload up to 3 images at checkout (max 5MB each).
- They are laid out at exact print size and printed on glossy photo paper.
- They are trimmed by hand and packed in with your letter.
- Your uploads are deleted from our systems once the order is delivered.
Print quality follows what you upload. A photo taken on a modern phone prints beautifully at these sizes; a heavily cropped, blurred or screenshotted image will print exactly as blurred as it arrived. We do not edit or retouch your photos, and we will not silently improve them.
Is it ₹99 per photo or ₹99 in total?
₹99 in total, whether you send one photo or three. There is no per-photo charge.
What sizes exactly?
2.3×3.5 inches (the classic wallet size) or 3×3 inches (square). Both fit inside the envelope without folding, which is why those two exist.
Who sees my photos?
Only the person printing and packing your order. They are stored privately against your order number, never used for anything else, and deleted after delivery.
Can I send more than 3?
Three is the limit — beyond that the envelope stops being a letter and starts being a parcel, and it will not travel as well. Pick the three that matter.
Schedule a Letter
Write it now, pick any date up to 6 months ahead, and we hold it. Your letter is produced and posted so it lands close to that date — not weeks early, sitting in a drawer, spoiling the surprise.
What we actually do
- You choose a date at least one day out and up to 6 months ahead.
- Your letter is stored, unproduced, until the right week.
- We work backwards from your date and post it with time to arrive.
- You get a tracking link when it actually goes out, so you are never guessing.
Nobody can guarantee a specific delivery date in India, and we will not pretend otherwise. We aim to land on or just before your date, and we would rather it arrive a day early than a day late. For a birthday or anniversary, pick the date itself and expect it in that window.
Can I change the date after ordering?
Yes, as long as the letter has not gone into production. Email us with your order number and we will move it.
Can I edit the letter before it is sent?
Until it goes into production, yes — get in touch. Once it has been written by hand and sealed, it is on its way.
How far ahead can I schedule?
Six months. Beyond that, too much changes — addresses, relationships, minds — and we would rather you wrote it closer to the time.
Questions that apply to all of them
What does the letter itself cost?
A printed letter is ₹399 and a handwritten one is ₹599, delivered anywhere in India. Everything on this page is optional and adds to that — a handwritten letter with a wax seal, for instance, is ₹698.
Do the add-on prices include GST?
Yes. Every price on this page and at checkout is GST-inclusive — the figure you see is the figure you pay. Your tax invoice shows the split.
Can I combine several add-ons?
Yes, any combination, and they are priced simply — each one adds its own amount to your total. The only pairing rule is that the pressed flower needs the wax seal to hold it.
Are add-ons available on both printed and handwritten letters?
Yes, all of them, on either style. The only difference is the extra note card, which is handwritten on handwritten orders and typeset on printed ones — to match the letter it accompanies.
Does anything on the envelope say LetterByPost?
No. The front of the envelope carries the address and nothing else — no branding, no logo, no hint of what is inside. That holds whatever add-ons you choose.
Do add-ons delay my letter?
No. Everything here is done as part of normal production, within a day, and then posted. Scheduled delivery is the only one that changes timing, and only because you asked it to.
What if an add-on arrives damaged or missing?
Tell us with your order number and we will make it right. Wax can chip and post can be rough — that is our problem to solve, not yours to absorb.
Can I add something not listed here?
Ask. We post letters, not parcels, so anything that turns the envelope into a package is out — but if it is flat, light and reasonable, we will tell you honestly whether we can do it.
