The Rakhi Says It Every Year. It Just Never Uses Words.
Every August a thread arrives, gets tied, gets photographed, and quietly stops being mentioned. That's the whole language of a lot of brother-sister relationships in India — enormous affection routed through teasing, money arguments and a courier tracking link. The thread is a promise, but it's a wordless one. A letter is where the sentence goes: the one you've both been implying for twenty years and never actually said out loud.

Why send a letter
The thread has no words
Rakhi is a promise made in silence. A letter is where you finally put the promise into a sentence he can read twice.
You only ever speak in jokes
Siblings communicate by insult. Paper is the one place you're allowed one honest paragraph without either of you having to make it weird.
He'll keep it with the old rakhis
Most families have a box of past rakhis somewhere. A handwritten letter joins that box — the courier packaging doesn't.

The rakhi is in the other parcel. This is the part I've never sent before. You've been the person I call when something's gone wrong for about fifteen years now, and I've never once thanked you for picking up. Consider this the written record, since I'm clearly not going to say it on the phone.
Standard annual reminder that you owe me money, respect, and a better gift than last year. Also — and I'll deny this if quoted — I got extremely lucky with the brother allocation. Tie the rakhi, send the photo, don't get sentimental about this letter.
You handle a lot for this family and nobody says it, least of all me. I see the things you sort out without announcing them. Rakhi is supposedly about you protecting me, but at this point the accounts are fairly even, and I wanted that written down somewhere.

Questions, answered
What should I write in a Rakhi letter to my brother?
One specific memory, one thing he's done that you've never acknowledged, and one plain sentence about what he is to you. Skip the general 'you're the best brother' line — siblings deflect superlatives instantly, but a specific remembered afternoon can't be deflected.
We're not sentimental at all. Won't this be awkward?
Write it in your usual register and put one honest line at the end. That contrast is the whole trick — three paragraphs of the standard abuse followed by one sincere sentence lands harder than a sincere letter would, and lets him laugh it off while keeping it.
Do I send the letter before or after the rakhi?
Aim for the same few days, and let the rakhi arrive first if you can — the thread is the ritual and the letter is the surprise that follows it. If they land on the same day, better still: he opens the parcel expecting a thread and finds an actual letter too.
Can you send the rakhi thread itself along with the letter?
No — we produce and post letters, not parcels, so the rakhi thread travels separately. Most people send the rakhi by courier and the letter through us, timed to land in the same few days. The two arriving separately actually works in your favour: the thread is the ritual, the letter is the part nobody expects.
Should I choose printed or handwritten?
Printed is your words set in a warm type on 100gsm cream paper. Handwritten is a real person writing it out by hand, in ink, on the same paper. For Rakhi — a festival that is entirely about a physical object — handwritten is the one people keep in the cupboard with the old rakhis.
Will my letter reach before Raksha Bandhan?
We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India. Order about a week before Rakhi to be comfortable. Post volumes climb in the fortnight before the festival, so earlier is genuinely better for this one.
I don't know how to write to my own sibling. Can you help?
Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before it's written out and posted — nothing goes in the envelope that doesn't sound like you.
Will anyone else read it?
No. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your sibling. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, which matters in a joint family house where the post gets collected by whoever's nearest.
