🪔 Raksha Bandhan · Hindi

This Festival Doesn't Really Happen in English

Raksha Bandhan runs in Hindi in most homes — the aarti, the arguments about who gets fed first, the thing your mother says every single year. Then the message goes out in English, in a font, and sounds like it came from a bank. If the household language is Hindi, the letter should be too. Handwritten Devanagari is also something almost nobody receives any more, which is half of why it lands the way it does.

Rakhi Letter in Hindi letter by post

Why send a letter

The language of the house

The festival happens in Hindi at home. A letter in English is a translation of something that was never in English.

Handwritten Devanagari is rare now

Everyone types Hindi; almost nobody writes it by hand. In ink, on cream paper, it reads as an heirloom.

Hinglish welcome

Most siblings talk in a mix. Write it exactly as you'd say it — switching mid-sentence is how the family actually sounds.

Hinglish
Bhai, rakhi courier se aa rahi hai, ye letter alag se. Phone pe ye sab bolna possible nahi hai, isliye likh diya — jo tune kiya hai in saalon mein, wo sab yaad hai. Bas itna hi. Ab isko lekar drama mat karna.

Questions, answered

Can the letter be handwritten in Hindi?

Yes — real Devanagari written by hand, in ink, on 100gsm cream paper. It's one of the more striking things we produce, precisely because handwritten Hindi has become so rare that most people can't remember the last one they held.

Can I mix Hindi and English?

Yes, and for most siblings that's the honest register. Hinglish reads as your actual voice rather than a formal address — the letter is stronger for switching mid-sentence than for being cleanly one language.

I can speak Hindi but not write it. Can you help?

Yes. Tell us what you want to say in whatever mix comes out, and our free writing assistant will shape it into Hindi or Hinglish. You approve the final text before anything is written by hand, so the words stay yours.

Do you write in other Indian languages?

We write in English, Hindi and Hinglish. For other scripts, get in touch before ordering — we'd rather tell you honestly that we can't hand-copy a language well than produce it badly for a festival letter.

Can you send the rakhi thread itself along with the letter?

No — we produce and post letters, not parcels, so the rakhi thread travels separately. Most people send the rakhi by courier and the letter through us, timed to land in the same few days. The two arriving separately actually works in your favour: the thread is the ritual, the letter is the part nobody expects.

Will my letter reach before Raksha Bandhan?

We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India. Order about a week before Rakhi to be comfortable. Post volumes climb in the fortnight before the festival, so earlier is genuinely better for this one.

I don't know how to write to my own sibling. Can you help?

Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before it's written out and posted — nothing goes in the envelope that doesn't sound like you.

Will anyone else read it?

No. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your sibling. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, which matters in a joint family house where the post gets collected by whoever's nearest.
