The Year He Isn't Here for It
The first Rakhi after a brother moves abroad is the one that stings — the thali gets made, the photo gets taken, and there's a video call at an hour that suits nobody. The rakhi itself goes by international courier and arrives flattened. What doesn't travel well over a call is the actual sentiment: everyone is performing cheerfulness through a slight audio delay, and nothing real gets said.

Why send a letter
The call is at a bad hour for someone
Video calls across time zones are always slightly rushed. A letter has no time zone and nobody has to be awake for it.
It carries the house with it
Your handwriting, on paper posted from home — the thing an NRI sibling actually misses is texture, and a screen has none.
It waits for him
Post it to the family address here and it's in his hands the next time he's home — often the strongest way to do this.

Mummy set out the thali this morning and there was a slightly odd pause where you'd normally be complaining about the mithai. The call was fine. The call is always fine. But fine isn't the same as here, and I wanted to write it down rather than say it on a screen at seven in the morning your time.
I'm posting this here rather than couriering it across, because I want it waiting for you at the house when you land — something to open in that room, on that bed, with the fan doing the thing it does. Some letters shouldn't be read in another country.
Third Rakhi in a row without you and I've stopped pretending it's the same. You made the right decision going, and everybody here is proud of you, including the ones who express it as complaints about your phone habits. Doesn't stop me wanting you at the table. Happy Rakhi.

Questions, answered
Can you post a letter to my brother outside India?
We post within India only. The two routes people use: post it to the family address here so it's waiting when he's next home, or send it to whoever is travelling out to him and let them carry it. Both work well — a letter that waits often lands harder than one that's rushed across.
Can I send a rakhi thread internationally through you?
No, we don't handle parcels or international shipping. Use an international courier for the thread and let us handle the letter within India — most people find the letter is the part that actually gets kept anyway.
He'll say a letter is unnecessary. Should I still send it?
Yes. That's the standard response and it's almost never the real one. People living far from home keep this kind of thing — we hear about letters from ten years ago still in a drawer in another country far more often than we hear regret about sending one.
Can it be written in Hindi?
Yes — English, Hindi or Hinglish, handwritten. For a sibling living abroad, Hindi in your own handwriting tends to carry more of home than English does; a lot of people specifically ask for it for exactly that reason.
Will my letter reach before Raksha Bandhan?
We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India. Order about a week before Rakhi to be comfortable. Post volumes climb in the fortnight before the festival, so earlier is genuinely better for this one.
I don't know how to write to my own sibling. Can you help?
Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before it's written out and posted — nothing goes in the envelope that doesn't sound like you.
Will anyone else read it?
No. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your sibling. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, which matters in a joint family house where the post gets collected by whoever's nearest.
