The Leave Didn't Come Through. The Letter Can.

Most missed Rakhis aren't dramatic — it's a rejected leave application, a ticket that got too expensive, a project that landed in the wrong week. Nobody's fault, and everybody says it's fine, and it is fine. But the day still happens without you in it. A letter is the one thing that can be in the room when you can't be, and it arrives with your handwriting on it, which a video call conspicuously does not.

Rakhi Letter to Sister in Another City letter by post

Why send a letter

For the year you couldn't travel

Leave, tickets, timing. A letter is the version of showing up that doesn't need a train seat.

Better than the video call

Calls get cut short by somebody's doorbell. A letter is read alone, properly, at whatever moment she chooses.

Tracked all the way

Sent by tracked post anywhere in India, so you know roughly when it lands and can time the call for after she's read it.

Missing the day
Leave didn't come through, which you already know, and which I'm still annoyed about. So I'm sending the only version of myself that can get there: this. Tie the rakhi on someone else's wrist for the photo and send it to me. I'll be back before Diwali and I'm not asking, I'm informing.
The year it changed
This is the first Rakhi where neither of us is in that house, and it's made me realise the festival was never about the house. Two different cities, same arrangement as always: you call, I answer, whatever it is gets handled. Distance hasn't altered a single term of that.
Short
Not there this year. Rakhi's in the post, this letter's the actual message. You've had a hard year and handled it better than I would have. Proud of you — and that sentence cost me a great deal to write down, so frame it.

Questions, answered

How long does delivery take within India?

Typically 3–6 days by tracked post, produced within a day of your order. For Rakhi, order about a week ahead — the fortnight before the festival is heavy for post everywhere in the country.

Can I time it to arrive on Raksha Bandhan itself?

You can schedule the send date, and tracked post gets you close, but no one can guarantee a specific delivery date in India. The reliable approach is to aim a couple of days early — a letter that arrives just before the festival is better than one that arrives just after.

Can I send it to her office or hostel instead of home?

Yes — we deliver anywhere in India, including hostels, PGs and offices. For a hostel, add the room number and block; that's usually what determines whether it reaches her hand or a common pile.

Can you send the rakhi thread itself along with the letter?

No — we produce and post letters, not parcels, so the rakhi thread travels separately. Most people send the rakhi by courier and the letter through us, timed to land in the same few days. The two arriving separately actually works in your favour: the thread is the ritual, the letter is the part nobody expects.

Should I choose printed or handwritten?

Printed is your words set in a warm type on 100gsm cream paper. Handwritten is a real person writing it out by hand, in ink, on the same paper. For Rakhi — a festival that is entirely about a physical object — handwritten is the one people keep in the cupboard with the old rakhis.

Will my letter reach before Raksha Bandhan?

We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India. Order about a week before Rakhi to be comfortable. Post volumes climb in the fortnight before the festival, so earlier is genuinely better for this one.

I don't know how to write to my own sibling. Can you help?

Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before it's written out and posted — nothing goes in the envelope that doesn't sound like you.

Will anyone else read it?

No. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your sibling. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, which matters in a joint family house where the post gets collected by whoever's nearest.
