Some Things Only Land in the Language They Were Learnt In
Your parents think in Hindi. Your grandparents definitely do. A Diwali letter written in Hindi, by hand, is read in their own voice rather than translated in their head - and for some families that difference is the entire gift.

Why send a letter
Read in their own voice
A letter in Hindi is heard rather than decoded. For a parent or grandparent that is a completely different experience of the same words.
Hindi by hand, properly
Devanagari written out by a real person - not a font, not a transliteration that half-works.
Or Hinglish, if that is you
Plenty of families speak Hindi but read Latin faster. We write it either way; you choose which one sounds like home.

Maa, Papa - Diwali ki bahut saari shubhkaamnayein. Yahan diye jala diye hain par aapke ghar wali baat nahi hai. Apna khayal rakhiye, aur Papa ko chhat par ladder le kar mat jaane dijiyega. Jaldi milta hoon.

Can you write a Diwali letter in Hindi?
Yes - written out by hand in Devanagari on 100gsm cream paper, 699, posted anywhere in India. Printed Hindi is 499 if you would rather have it typeset.
What is the difference between a Hindi and a Hinglish letter?
Hindi is Devanagari script - the right choice for parents and grandparents who read it comfortably. Hinglish is Hindi written in Latin letters, which is how most people under forty actually read and type. Pick the one the reader is faster in, not the one that looks more formal.
Will the letter reach before Diwali?
We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post - typically 3-6 days anywhere in India. Order about a week before the festival to be comfortable. Post volumes climb steeply in the fortnight before Diwali, so earlier is genuinely better for this one.
I can speak Hindi but not type it - can you still write it in Hindi?
Yes. Dictate it or type it in Hinglish and tell us you want it produced in Devanagari; we write it out properly and you approve the text before anything is posted.
What do I write in a Hindi Diwali letter to my parents?
The same things you would write in English, but notice which sentences only work in Hindi - the ones about blessings, about the house, about missing someone. Those are usually the ones worth keeping in Hindi.
Can the Hindi handwriting be made larger for older readers?
Yes - say so in your order notes and we write larger, with generous spacing between the lines.
Can you send sweets or a gift along with the letter?
No - we produce and post letters, not parcels, so mithai and gifts travel separately. Most people send the box by courier and the letter through us, timed to land in the same few days. They arriving apart actually helps: the sweets are the custom, the letter is the part nobody expects.
I don't know what to write. Can you help?
Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before it is written out and posted - nothing goes in the envelope that doesn't sound like you.
Can I make it feel more festive?
Add a wax seal or scented paper, and up to 10 printed photos (50 each) - a photo of the family at last year's Diwali is the enclosure that gets the biggest reaction.
