Your Best Friend Will Get Forty Messages. One Letter.
On Friendship Day your best friend's phone fills with the same forwarded image, sent by people who wouldn't recognise them in an airport. You're not competing with that — you're doing something else entirely. A letter arrives on a different day, in a different form, with your handwriting on it, and it sits on their desk for years while every one of those messages is gone by Monday.

Why send a letter
It survives the forwards
Forty identical messages arrive and vanish the same day. A letter is the only thing in the pile that still exists next year.
You can drop the act
Best friends communicate almost entirely in insults. Paper is where you're allowed one honest paragraph without anyone getting uncomfortable.
It arrives at their house
Not a notification — an envelope with their name on it, handed over at their door. Almost nobody gets those any more.

You'll get about forty Friendship Day messages today and thirty-nine of them will be the same picture. I've gone with the aggressively inconvenient option instead, because you're worth an actual stamp. You're my best friend. That's the whole letter.
People say 'best friend' loosely. I mean it in the narrow, technical sense: you're the person I'd call first with good news, bad news, or no news at all. Twelve years of that. Happy Friendship Day, you disaster.
I'm not going to make this funny. You've been the steadiest thing in my life for years, mostly without being thanked, and often at some cost to yourself. I noticed all of it. Happy Friendship Day — I'm glad you exist.

Questions, answered
What do I write to my best friend if we're not the emotional type?
Keep ninety percent of it in your usual register — the jokes, the insults, the running bit — and put one honest sentence at the end. That contrast is what makes it land. The letter doesn't need to be sincere throughout to be sincere.
Should I send it to their home or their office?
Home, unless you know their office post is reliable and they'd enjoy the audience. A letter at home gets opened properly; one at the office gets opened between meetings with three people watching.
Can I add a small gift to the letter?
The letter is the gift, and adding a parcel tends to demote it. What works inside the envelope: up to 3 printed photos, a pressed flower set into the wax seal, or a short P.S. card in the same hand — small things that stay part of the letter.
What's the difference between printed and handwritten?
Printed is your words set in a warm type on 100gsm cream paper. Handwritten is a real person writing your letter out by hand, in ink, on the same paper — slower, and the one people keep. For a friend you've had for years, handwritten is usually worth it.
Will it reach in time for Friendship Day?
Friendship Day falls on the first Sunday of August. We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India — so order about a week ahead to be comfortable. If you've left it late, order anyway: a letter that lands a few days after is still the only one they'll get all year.
I'm not good with words. Can you help me write it?
Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before anything is printed or posted — nothing goes out that doesn't sound like you.
Who else sees what I write?
Nobody. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your friend. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, so it doesn't announce itself to whoever collects the post.
