They Knew You Before You Were Anybody
A childhood friend met you when you had no job title, no opinions worth defending and no idea who you were going to be. Everyone you've met since knows the finished version. That's why writing to a childhood friend feels different — you're writing to the only person who can still see the kid, and who liked you then, before you'd achieved anything to be liked for.

Why send a letter
No performance possible
They saw the original. Nothing you've built since impresses them, which makes them the most restful company you have.
A shared place, not just a shared past
The street, the school gate, somebody's terrace. Naming those in a letter brings back more than any photo does.
Letters suit the era you shared
You grew up before everything became instant. A posted letter fits that friendship in a way a message never quite does.

I drove past the old colony last month and the gate is still that same terrible green. I stood there for about a minute thinking about the summer we were convinced we could dig through to the other side of the ground. You are the only person in my life who remembers that, which is a strange kind of responsibility for us both.
Everyone I've met in the last fifteen years knows me as a set of job titles. You knew me when my entire personality was a cricket bat and a bad haircut. I'd forgotten how restful it is to be around someone who isn't remotely impressed by any of it. Don't ever start being impressed.
We've not spoken properly in years and I've decided that isn't a good enough reason not to write. Nothing's wrong. I just thought about you, and about the terrace, and realised that thinking about someone and never telling them is a fairly useless thing to do.

Questions, answered
It's been years since we spoke. Is a letter strange?
Less strange than a sudden phone call. A letter is an easier thing to receive after a long gap — it asks nothing of them in the moment and gives them time to decide how to answer. Open with the truth: that you thought of them and didn't want to leave it at that.
I don't have their current address. What can I do?
Ask a sibling, a parent, or the family group most childhood friendships still have hanging around. It's worth the small awkwardness of asking — an address is the one thing we can't work around, and the letter needs a real door to arrive at.
Can I include old photographs?
Yes, and for a childhood friend it's the strongest addition — up to 3 photos printed on photo paper and tucked in with the letter. A photo from that time, printed rather than sent, is usually what they'll ring you about.
What's the difference between printed and handwritten?
Printed is your words set in a warm type on 100gsm cream paper. Handwritten is a real person writing your letter out by hand, in ink, on the same paper — slower, and the one people keep. For a friend you've had for years, handwritten is usually worth it.
Will it reach in time for Friendship Day?
Friendship Day falls on the first Sunday of August. We produce your letter within a day and send it by tracked post — typically 3–6 days anywhere in India — so order about a week ahead to be comfortable. If you've left it late, order anyway: a letter that lands a few days after is still the only one they'll get all year.
I'm not good with words. Can you help me write it?
Start from the samples on this page, or use our free writing assistant to shape a draft in your own voice. You approve every word before anything is printed or posted — nothing goes out that doesn't sound like you.
Who else sees what I write?
Nobody. Your letter is produced confidentially, sealed, and addressed only to your friend. The envelope is elegant and unbranded on the front, so it doesn't announce itself to whoever collects the post.
